To find solutions to a problem, a 3 x 3 field matrix (schematic lotus blossom) is created. The challenge is noted at the center. Then, ideas are entered into the adjacent fields. Each idea becomes the starting point for further additions or concretizations of the solution in the next step. This way, at least 8 x 8 interrelated solutions are generated in a short time.
The Lotus Blossom Technique is more structured than brainstorming. The advantages: the technique encourages the production of a minimum number of ideas, even when creativity initially seems exhausted. Additionally, it promotes the principle of mutual inspiration and the recombination of partial solutions.
